Posie’s Driven Dirty Tour Day 3

Posted in Uncategorized by drivindave on October 26, 2009

Today brought a new light to having a car that will go the distance on a cross country trip. After a few problems with the 41 Packard, it was sent home for not behaving on the road. A call went out to the Dynamat Central and the roadster got the nod. The switch should happen sometime  this afternoon when Mr. Scott Whitaker should catch up with the tour in Springfield, Mo. It has been raining all day with a 50% chance tonight…… he has no top ! Posie has had some electrical problems with the Jag, but kept diggin and found the fix so he if out of the trailer and back on the road. We continue to move forward and have a good time because it’s all part of the deal. This morning after breakfast we made it to a few collections even after some navigational blunders by some of us. It made for an exciting route and an opportunity to see new things. We all made it to Jack Stirnemann’s garage. The first stop was to George Lang’s collection not far from Stirnemann’s place. George is an avid collector and has a whole stable of Bobby Alloway built cars including the AMBR winner from 2003. Jack Stinemann has also built some very nice cars for George as well. Last time I saw George’s stuff he had a bunch of BMW Motorcycles as well as a bunch of Harleys. I missed the tour this time so sorry for the short info on Goerge’s new shop. Everyone made it over to Jacks shop and got to see some very cool cars. The masterpiece of the garage is the Walker Morrison Roadster that Jack restored and placed 2nd with at the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours. Jack and his Brother Harry are very successful Bonneville racers. They have a beautiful 1937 Chevy coupe that really gets with it and has a hopped up 6 cylinder in it. These guys can build anything and have built everything from Flatheads to twin Turbo’d V8’s. They even pitched in and helped work on one of our tour cars that needed some modification to a skid plate. Our  next stop was to Kurt McCormick’s Custom Car Collection. Kurt has an amazing collection of old customs. Just to name a few….. he has, Westergard 1941 Cadillac, Sam Barris 1950 Buick, 1954 Cadillac named the Parisienne, The Alcorn Merc, The Wetzels 1932 Roadster and the Rod & Custom Dream Truck. Most of these old customs were bought when they were in really bad shape and Kurt brought them back to life. Thanks to George Lang, Jack and Harry Stirnemann and Kurt McCormick for opening their doors to us and allowing us to mingle with these cool cars.

Should get interesting with the weather in the next few days and also more cool car stuff. Check Back !Lined up ready to goGeorge Lang show his Stirnemann build 32 Roadster that ran at the saltThe Stirnemann nerve centerOne of the jewels in the Kurt McCormick Collection
